Child Life Specialist
Position: Per Diem
Location: Homecare

Advocates for the special needs of children and their families. Helps children and their families process and cope with medical situations. Provides information, support, and guidance to parents and family members. Collaborates with the health care team to coordinate and manage care.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Help children understand what to expect during medical procedures and provide coping strategies.
• Teach children and families how to cope with medical situations.
• Advocate for children: Represent the needs of children and their families.
• Educate families and provide information and guidance to parents and family members.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team and work with other healthcare providers to coordinate care.
• Create play and recreational activities and provide opportunities for play and other activities that promote healing and self-expression.

• Outstanding communication, education, and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize, problem solve, manage multiple tasks and work independently.
• Ability to collaborate with others on the interdisciplinary team and with community partners.
• Skilled in providing holistic care to patients and their families.
• Ability to identify and address psychosocial needs.
• Demonstrates ethical conduct and judgment that is in harmony with the mission and values of Hawaii Care Choices.
• Adheres to all policies, procedures and regulations regarding patient care, conduct, safety, fire, security, risk management and personnel policies.

Education & Experience Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Child Life Studies or related field required.
• Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification required.
• Minimum two years of recent experience in health care (discharge planning, behavioral health/counseling background.)
• Hospice and/or Palliative experience preferred.

Hours:

Scheduled coverage will be scheduled in advance, and is dependent on the agency's needs.

Pay $28.00 - $29.00 per hour

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
