About the Company:

My client is a dynamic and growing company in the FinTech and SaaS sector, who is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to join them on a contract basis to lead their accounting operations and drive financial excellence.

Job Summary:

The Contract Controller will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting operations for the duration of the contract. This individual will manage daily accounting functions, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, implement and maintain robust internal controls, and provide strategic financial guidance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of GAAP, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving process improvements.

Responsibilities:

Operational Accounting & Cash Management:

  • Manage and oversee daily operational accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, banking, credit cards, and journal entries.
  • Implement strategies to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and optimize cash flow management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions.

Revenue Recognition & Technical Accounting:

  • Analyze new contracts and product offers for compliance
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of revenue recognition policies, including the successful implementation of revenue recognition for SaaS-based product offerings.
  • Drive and manage complex revenue recognition changes, including obtaining third-party audit approval, drafting technical memos, and implementing system and reporting processes.
  • Manage the implementation of technical accounting policies, including ASC 326 (Financial Instruments—Credit Losses), ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 718 (Compensation—Stock Compensation), and ASC 815 (Derivatives and Hedging).

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.
  • Prepare and maintain ASC 842 lease schedules, CAPEX and CIP schedules for internally developed software, complex liability accruals and estimates, and labor cost of sales analysis.
  • Provide detailed flux and variance analysis on monthly department and company OPEX, collaborating with the FP&A team and department heads to deliver actionable insights.
  • Manage and oversee the annual financial audit, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors.

Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Lead and manage systems implementations, including improvements to reporting through software integration and transitions related to payroll/HRIS.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Provide coaching, learning, and support to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, ensuring effective performance and team collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 326, ASC 718, and ASC 815.
  • Proven experience in managing revenue recognition, including complex implementations and changes.
  • Experience managing and overseeing financial audits.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and implement new systems.
  • Experience with SaaS or similar industry is highly desirable.
